You are looking at a new idea of mine which id like to tell you about. Below are 2 view's of my new idea, as you can see I am no artist but I tried. Yesterday I was thinking again about how we can increase efficiency by changing or adding to the coil or projectile, then I was thinking about all the wasted magnetic energy coming off and around the coil when it could be going into the projectile.
In the view's you can hopefully see the main coil "the coilgun" and around it 4 electromagnets. "Common it aint that bad :)" The electro magnets can be easily made by obtaining a steel rod, the appropriate magnet wire, and a power source. Basically you want to close both circuits for all coils at the same time, I am even working on having both coils for my test model share the same power source on 1 circuit. Depending on how powerfull you think the magnetic force should be redirecting most if not all escaping magnetic energy back into the projectile will determine the outcome. But like I said above I will most likely have the main drive coil and repulsion magnet on the same shared circuit.
For simplicity sake I only had this nonexcisting model have 4 evenly spaced magnets surrounding the coil, for my coilgun I am building a 1 magnet repulsing shield which will surround the entire coilgun.
