This model will probably be the last coilgun coil I will be working on, since Thompson Coilguns are much more efficient and promising for higher projectile speed's. This coil is but one layer, used with high capacitance's and voltage. The coil came from thought's on how to make a coil that would be able to keep applying force onto the projectile for the longest time. The coil since it is but one layer, would have one polarity either way, which meens not worrying about suck back effect or only able to use 50% of the coil such as with a typical coilgun multiple layer coil solenoid.

  • Power Supply:120vac Variac - 5kv 20ma Transformer
  • Voltage Usage:1-4kv
  • Capacior/s Info:8000v 460mfd None-Polarized Maxwell Pulse Capacitor
  • Switching Device:Arc Gap Switch
  • Efficiency:3.6%
  • In Joule's:3680
  • Out Joule's:136
  • Wire Size:AWG 8
  • Wire Legnth Coil:100ft
  • Coil Legnth:3ft
  • Projectile Legnth:2"
  • Projectile Weight:10gram
  • Exit Speed Average:493ft/sec at 4kv

As you can see the new coil did not turn out as fair as I hopefully expected. But in the future I will work on a few other idea's I have to get this coil to work much more efficiently I suspect.
